Nevis Activities

While many of our guests enjoy doing nothing more than stretching out on our beach, with a cool drink, a good book, and the cool breezes, there are also a lot of other activities to partake in. One of the reasons our guests return over and over again is because we offer so much to do without having to go anywhere.

There is an activities center on site which offers scuba diving, mountain biking, snorkeling, sunfish sailing, sport fishing boats, windsurfing school, hobie cats, kayaks and day sailing adventures on yachts and catamarans. Spa treatments are also available.A mini conference room is on property for small groups of up to twenty people.

The hotel can arrange rain forest hikes, horseback trail rides, tennis, golf, car rentals, historic and island tours, as well as shopping trips to neighbouring islands. Baby-sitting services can also be arranged.

Just take a look below at the links to our many different activities. Have Fun!

SPA TREATMENTS:

The Oualie Spa, located at the Resort, offers a relaxing selection of facials, massages and body treatments utilizing natural products of the Island. The Spa also offers the ancient Tibetan healing technique of REIKE.

MOUNTAIN BIKES:

The fitness freaks on the Island hang out at the bike shop at Oualie Beach Resort where Winston Crooke and "Reggie" plot grueling triathalon courses (swim, bike, run) for the massochists among us!

For more gentle exercise they escort guests on guided mountain bike tours along rainforest trails.

RAIN FOREST HIKES:

There are several experienced tour guides on the island that can take you where you want to go. While some places are accessible on your own, we recommend that you go with a tour guide into the mountain to visit Nevis Peak or climb on other trails. Not only will this insure your safety, but it will make the trip more meaningful as you learn about the flora, fauna and history from the experts. One poor fellow went up by himself and was stuck there for 8 days!

TOP TO BOTTOM

Most of our guests go hiking with Jim & Nikki Johnson. Jim came out as a peace Corp with the Vetinary department. He was very helpful sewing up my pet dog after it had a fighting bout with a large male monkey. He then married Nikki, a very pretty local lass. They offer 17 different educational hikes throughout the island from a walk in the “green ghaut” to climbing Nevis Peak to a favorite with children: beach stargazing and stories on the beach, ending with a bonfire. Jim will talk the hind leg off a donkey, but will give you a littany of very interesting facts about local plants and their value as bush medicine. Ask him to point out to you "Coconda Root" Our local Viagra!

For reservations, call 869-469-9080 or E-mail walknevis@caribsurf.com or if you prefer, the reservation staff at Oualie will do all this for you!

UPPER ROUND ROAD

This 9-mile (14.8km) road, constructed during the 1600's, is being developed as a trail that can be used for hiking, horseback riding, and off-road mountain biking. It was part of an extensive road system built to provide access to the estate cane fields and communities that once surrounded Nevis Peak. Organized by the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society with a grant from RARE, Center for Tropical Conservation, the project received an ecotourism award from Islands Magazine.

The road connects the Golden Rock Plantation Inn on the windward or eastside of Nevis with the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club on the northern tip of the island. It passes through local villages, past quaint West Indian houses, a seasonal rain forest, and locally grown fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. Don’t be surprised to see monkeys frollicking and mongoose running around on your journey.

HORSE BACK RIDING:

This is one of the few places left where you can still ride horses on the beach in some areas. Our guests use the nearby Nevis Equestrian Center. Have our reservation staff book you a ride now before that also gets regulated!

Just kidding! This photo is not of our guests galloping along the beach, it is a shot from our race track down at Indian Castle!
