About the Resort & Owners

On January 3rd, 1980, the resort started as a simple beach bar right on the best beach in Nevis nestled in a naturally protected cove named Oualie Bay. On November 16th, 1989, the first 6 rooms were opened. It has gradually evolved into an eco-sensitive 32 room beachfront property.

The owners are the Yearwoods, a large West Indian family with roots that trace 350 years back to England. Managing Director, John Yearwood, met his American wife, Karen, in West Africa and they have traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and Africa. These travels have helped them create the perfect Nevis beach hotel with excellent local & international cuisine, and a casual relaxed ambiance infused with the warm, friendly welcome of genuine Caribbean people.

Our Green Practices

Energy

We use photovoltaic panels to produce enough electricity to run the kitchen
We use solar heaters to produce hot water for all the rooms
We use low energy lights throughout the entire property

Water

We use rainwater and grey water to irrigate the gardens
We save energy and water by offering guests the option to limit towel and linen washing

Food

We support local agriculture by insisting on using local vegetables, fruits, meat and fish wherever possible rather than importing
We grow our own fresh herbs, flowers, and orchids rather than importing

Recycling

We recycle our kitchen food waste by giving it to local pig farmers.
We recycle used bottles to produce glasses, ash trays, and décor for the restaurant
We use 100% biodegradable takeaway containers
We use recycling bins for aluminum, metal and plastic to be recycled.

Architecture

We designed our cottages with high ceilings and louver windows to reduce the heat and to benefit from the constant trade winds

Community

We sponsor a local school (St James primary school) in the form of trophies, sports uniforms, cash donations, and prizes for good performance
We sponsor a team of eye surgeons who in return perform about 100 eye operations annually for the local community
We support local music with the employment of local musicians

Conservation

We protect sea turtles by securing their nests and any offspring that are present on the property
