Sponge Marketing & Events, in partnership with SwimTrek, is delighted to announce the new ownership of the Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim. Jane Hansom (founder of Sponge) and SwimTrek will be jointly taking over this extraordinary island-to-island crossing from Winston Crook, who founded and nurtured the event for the past two decades. The Cross Channel Swim is set to undergo an exhilarating transformation as Sponge and SwimTrek aim to elevate the race to legendary status, attracting hundreds of open water swimming enthusiasts from around the world. This partnership opens new opportunities to showcase an already historic event to a wider audience, securing its place amongst the world’s best-known international swimming events. The iconic 2.5mile (4.1 km) swim from Oualie Beach on Nevis to Cockleshell Beach on St Kitts takes place in crystal clear, tropical waters teeming with sea life. Like hands across the water, the swim bridges both islands via the ‘Narrows’, which separate the sister Caribbean islands. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event, included in the World Open Water Swimming Association’s Top 100 Most Iconic Swims. This is not the first time Sponge Marketing and Swim Trek have collaborated to promote the dual-island nation. SwimTrek have been bringing swimmers to St Kitts and Nevis for the past 7 years since Sponge first contacted SwimTrek to suggest the destination as the perfect addition to their swimming holiday portfolio. Notably, this ownership transition represents a significant milestone for the tourism industry in St Kitts and Nevis. As the Cross Channel Swim gains momentum and expands its international reach, it promises to put the spotlight on the picturesque beauty of St Kitts and Nevis. Both islands will benefit from increased tourism and the influx of participants, further establishing them as world-class destinations for open water swimming enthusiasts and vacationers alike.
Expressing her excitement about this new chapter, Sponge founder, Jane Hansom stated, “The Cross Channel Swim is an extraordinary event, rich in history and challenging in nature and one that I have personally participated in for the past 11 years. I am thrilled to collaborate with SwimTrek and bring my team’s marketing and event expertise to ensure an elevated and memorable experience for all participants. Together, we will take this iconic race to new heights, promoting the beauty of Nevis and St. Kitts to a global audience.” SwimTrek’s founder, Simon Murie, equally enthusiastic about the partnership, said: “We are proud to be part of the Cross Channel Swim’s legacy. We are excited to incorporate this incredible race into our international swim race portfolio, inviting swimmers from all corners of the world to experience the thrill of this iconic island-to-island swim. We look forward to working closely with Jane and her team to create an unparalleled event for participants and an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.” The 2024 event will be the 23rd year of the event. Join word-class athletes and adventure-seeking swimmers in tropical Caribbean waters and soak up the camaraderie and spirit of adventure as we showcase the unique beauty of two islands and one paradise that is St. Kitts and Nevis. The 2024 Nevis to St Kitts crossing will take place on 6th April 2024. Registration is now open at: www.nevistostkittscrosschannelswim.com ![]()

Source: thestkittsnevisobserver.com Saturday’s Nevis Triathlon, hosted at Oualie Beach and the last of Nevis’ sport tourism events for the year, celebrated its 18th anniversary by attracting the most international participants in years and delivering a positive economic impact, according to organizers.
“The international composition of the competitors in this year’s triathlon is a result of hard work and a sign of the direction in which the Nevis Triathlon is headed. We are both pleased and encouraged,” Race organizer Greg Phillip said. Of the 48 participants, 28 were from outside St. Kitts and Nevis. The United Kingdom had 16 athletes in the field. An estimated ninety room nights directly resulted from triathlon stays, and an assessed EC$140,000.00, beyond accommodation expenditure, was spent by those who traveled to Nevis for the triathlon. Airlift to and from the Federation also gained as all the international triathletes flew in, the majority of them with bikes. Local businesses took the opportunity to secure promotional benefits through sponsorship deals with the event, including Rams Supermarkets, which continued its long running sponsorship as the official supermarket of the Nevis Triathlon. This year, the Nevis Cooperative Credit Union joined the ranks of sponsors as a partnering financial institution. The event thanked GMP Graphics and Printing, Islander Watersports, TDC Group of Companies, and the Oualie Beach Resort for their sponsorships, as well as the triathlon’s three strategic partners, the Nevis Tourism Authority, Book Nevis, and Always Aim High Triathlon in the UK. Nevis Multisport also expressed thanks to all the volunteers and their coordinator, Mrs. Govanie Manners-Hendrickson, for their dedication and effort. Nevis Multisport is a not-for-profit organization based on Nevis. Its aim is to host quality sporting events and to attract active travelers and locals to participate in them. Currently the Nevis Triathlon and the Nevis Marathon and Running Festival are its two events. The 19th Nevis triathlon is planned for Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020. Oualie Beach (Nevis) #2 in Best Things To Do in St. Kitts & Nevis Source: travel.usnews.com Best Things To Do in St. Kitts & Nevis - Trying to figure out a way to distinguish your St. Kitts and Nevis trip from other Caribbean spots? We have two words for you: black sand. For some of the most distinctive, check out the shore along Pump Bay or Belle Tete on St. Kitts. Of the two islands, St. Kitts is also where you'll find the most activities away from the shore (including tours of the historic Brimstone Fortress and several golf courses). Quiet Nevis is better known for its beaches, including the famous Pinney's and clear water snorkeling at Oualie.
Try correctly pronouncing the name of this beach ("wah-lee") before you start enjoying the free-flowing margaritas from the on-site beach bar. And you'll want to eat and drink on this beach – Oualie's chairs and hammocks are free to use as long as you do. You can also enjoy some spectacular snorkeling in the clear waters and there are rental kiosks for other water sports as well. Scuba Safaris and Windsurf 'N' Mountainbike Nevis are just two of the companies represented on Oualie's shore. Visitors say the sand on this beach is soft and less rocky compared to some of the other shorelines on these islands. Many also enjoyed the calm and warm waters at this beach. Located in Nevis north of Pinney's, Oualie Beach is easy to reach from St. Kitts. Water taxis can pull directly up to the adjacent dock so you can walk to shore. www.oualiebeach.com |
